Chimpanzee Confiscated From Hunters
Monrovia, Liberia, 1989
Nicohls found this baby, frightened and confused, in a tiny zoo. The zookeeper, a teacher, meant well but was overwhelmed and had little or no funding. Later this zoo was destroyed by civil war and the animals killed and eaten.
This picture is so nice and makes me want to see animals rescued like this. The image is in a sense rescued and trapped at the same time. It is such a sad picture and the story behind it is even sadder. But I would like to see myself capture more emotional images like this one. The composition is powerful and very compelling to the viewer.
